PreS-Gr 2--This heartwarming picture book models the joy and strength of just being oneself. Jordan, a Black elementary schooler, is due for a haircut. He knows from his mother and friends that a haircut can be a fun experience and a way to redefine yourself. But Jordan is happy with his afro just the way it is. The vibrant watercolor illustrations contribute to the warm atmosphere of the story, highlighting the book's themes of acceptance and encouragement. While this title focuses on the Black hair care experience, its positive portrayal of self-expression will resonate with readers of all identities. VERDICT This will find a home anywhere.--Maria Bohan
