In the blink of an eye, Rebecca Loft (Elizabeth Perkins) has becomes a widow. She's not alone for long, however, when her eccentric friend Sylvie (Whoopi Goldberg), younger sister Lucy (Gwyneth Paltrow) and ex-stepmother Alberta (Kathleen Turner) move in with a lot of baggage…emotional and literal. But when Alberta hires a sexy house painter (Jon Bon Jovi), he inspires unforeseen passion within each of the women as they learn to let down their defenses and let go of their innermost fears.
