MY FATHER AND MY SON follows young Deniz, who grows up in the shadow of the 1980 military coup in Turkey. Having lost his mother before he was born, Deniz is raised by his father Sadık, a newspaper columnist, in a modest home, isolated from any extended family. That is, until one day, Sadık brings unexpected news: they are moving to a small town to live with Deniz’s grandfather—whom he has never met.
