"Elikki may not have a family, but she has her fierce independence, boundless charm, and enough talent as a jewelry artisan to make a living on the road. With a bounty on her back-and a severe crush forming on his end-they decide to travel together to the next town. Elikki is a nomad elf who uses her metal magic to make jewelry that she sells in markets, and this time she's landed in Povon. Business is booming--that is, until an unruly customer tries to lay a hand on her. A handsome, lilac-skinned half giant named Barra tries to come to her defense, but Elikki proves that she's no damsel in distress. All that changes when the law comes after Elikki and Barra helps Elikki escape Povon. Now on the run, Elikki and Barra learn about each other and can't deny the growing attraction between them. But will they be able to let their guard down and open their hearts? Or will the law catch up with them before love can bloom? Vale's debut is a charming, queer, cozy romantasy that features enigmatic characters, road-trip shenanigans, and spicy intimate scenes interwoven with themes of healing from past traumas and coming into your authentic self. Fans of Travis Baldree or Kimberly Lemming will enjoy.

Vale's cute debut is right at home in the current wave of cozy, Dungeons and Dragons-esque romantasy. Itinerant elven jeweller and metalsmith Elikki uses metalworking magic to help create her popular designs. When a minor noble attempts to assault her, the magic goes haywire defending her and the result is that Elikki needs to get out of town fast. Luckily, half-giant Barra and his enormous magical horse witness the whole thing, and though he and Elikki are total strangers, he immediately offers his help. On the run from the lord's bounty hunters, they have plenty of time to get to know each other--and to decide if they want to act on their instant mutual attraction. Despite being very physically compatible, they find that Barra's disastrous romantic history and Elikki's difficult childhood serve as emotional roadblocks. Still, as they journey onward, they begin to see themselves differently through each other's eyes. If they can stay out of trouble, they just might have a whole new life ahead of them. Vale offers plenty of excitement and a surprisingly high level of heat, coupled with a welcoming queer-normative fantasy setting that feels familiar and comfortable. Readers should grab a cup of tea and sink right in. Agent: Brent Taylor, Triada US. (Aug.)
