Victoria Rogers knows she was adopted. What she doesn't know is that she was her parents' second choice. Before Victoria was born, Milton and Ava were connected with pregnant teenager Cindy, who ended up changing her mind about the adoption and about raising her daughter, Shannon, on her own. Victoria is devastated, and her already rocky relationship with Ava gets even worse. Shannon, meanwhile, is shocked to learn that her mother considered giving her up for adoption, especially since the two of them are Gilmore Girls--close. But Shannon has other things to worry about: she has no idea what she's doing with her life, and she can't tell Cindy that her boyfriend proposed. Stuntwoman Victoria also finds herself at a crossroads as she recovers from a bad accident, discovering surprising kinship with Shannon and Shannon's soon-to-be stepbrother, Javiar. Mallery's latest (after Beach Vibes, 2025) showcases her ability to breezily portray significant hurts and emotional intensity. Alternating perspectives between Victoria, Ava, and Shannon, Mallery presents a holistic picture of women facing their truths and coming out on top.
