Urszenyi's third thriller featuring CIA Special Agent Alexandra Martel (following Out in the Cold) takes her on a mission that hits too close to home. What starts as a safari vacation with her father, retired U.S. Army General David Martel, turns deadly when rebels kidnap her dad. They know that the general is valuable to many malefactors for the military secrets he holds, and they plan to make extra money by selling access to him. Alex, with the help of her CIA boss Caleb, gathers a team to rescue her father. But her higher-ups have their own agenda, and she has no idea that the already impossible odds of success are even more stacked against her. It doesn't help that every step of the mission will force her to confront memories she wants to forget and question whom she can trust. VERDICT Urszenyi delivers another fast-paced novel that demands to be read in one sitting. Alex leaps off the page, and the supporting characters feel realistic as well. Familiarity with the first two books in the series is not a prerequisite to enjoying this one, but newcomers will want to seek out the other installments after finishing Alex's latest adventure.--Jeff Ayers
