Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

In this welcoming work, inspirational speaker Moorjani (Dying to Be Me) guides novice empaths, or those who feel more sensitive to their surroundings than most, in how to live a healthy life within an increasingly partisan society. She begins with a quiz to help readers determine their level of empathic ability and shares advice, personal anecdotes, and stories of those who have attended her workshops and retreats. Moorjani is most eloquent and persuasive when giving advice on embracing one's ego and weaknesses--rather than constantly striving to rise above them: "There's a difference between having an ego and being egocentric. A healthy ego protects and fortifies you." She also doesn't shy from difficult or complex topics, like clinging to a victim mentality, stating, "The goal always has to be to take the control of our lives back, including getting professional help if necessary." Though Moorjani writes that the book "isn't about walls, barriers, and protection," multiple sections dedicated to strengthening mental boundaries and advice to avoid social situations that might "deplete your energy" come off as contradictory. Moorjani's revealing insights will appeal to her many fans as well as those just beginning to understand their empathic abilities. (Mar.)
