Book - 2025

For generations, the Duncan women of Wild Hill have carried gifts both wondrous and dangerous. But tragedy fractured the family, scattering the sisters and leaving their legacy untended. To reclaim their heritage, they must face old wounds, long-buried secrets, and the powerful ties that bind them as family.

There are many witches; one family is destined to produce a trio of witches that will change the world. When Calum Geddes, media billionaire and the reason behind their mother's uncharacteristic death by suicide, dies, Brigid Laguerre and her sister, Phoebe Duncan, are summoned to their ancestral home of Wild Hill. Both of them refuse, but the mother goddess won't take no for an answer. They haven't spoken in decades--not since their mother's death sent them to live on opposite sides of the country with fathers who didn't really want them--which leads to an uncomfortable reunion. The third to arrive is Phoebe's daughter, who doesn't know anything of the family history but is quickly brought up to speed by the ghosts of Wild Hill. If they can mend fences and work together, they'll be able to wreak havoc on the corrupt status quo and possibly change the world. The family dynamics and the global revenge fantasy that is cozy in tone make for a fun diversion of a story in Miller's (The Change, 2022) latest.

This enchanting offering from Miller (The Change) finds a family of witches fighting the patriarchy on their ancestral home in Long Island. Actor and producer Brigid Laguerre, now in her late 40s, has been estranged from her sister, Phoebe Duncan, since their mother's suicide 30 years earlier at Wild Hill. Neither has been back to their childhood home and both believe their mother's last boyfriend, media mogul Calum Geddes, was responsible for her demise. Now, hearing news of Callum's death at 78, they take it as a sign from the Old One, the spirit that guides them, to reunite and come home. The guests expected at Calum's memorial include fellow billionaires, CEOs, and politicians who have spent their careers abusing women and the environment, and the reader gathers that the Old One wants the sisters to somehow strike back. At Wild Hill, they're joined by the ghosts of their ancestors as well as Phoebe's daughter, Sibyl, a young chef who has been kept in the dark about the family's magic and has yet to discover her own. The plot is bogged down by copious backstory, but Miller breathes life into the proceedings as the women contend with the sacrifices required for their righteous mission. It's sure to appeal to Miller's fans and win her plenty of new ones. Agent: Suzanne Gluck, WME. (Oct.)
