Review by School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 1--This exuberant picture book walks readers through the parts of their faces--from mouths, to noses, to eyes, to ears--and through all of the things their faces can do. Mouths taste and sing, eyes see and cry, and cheeks, chins, and foreheads feel. The text also describes how the parts of our faces can be decorated and protected. Vibrant cartoon-style illustrations feature as many shades of skin color, hair styles, eye shapes, nose swoops, and mouth sizes as there are pages in the book; the families in the background are similarly diverse. Larger-than-life spreads offer both close-ups and zoomed-out pictures that capture emotions, occasionally to comic effect. The end of the book asks readers to make connections to their own wonderful faces. A strong addition to programs that focus on the five senses, parts of the body, and on celebrating people's similarities and differences, this book also creates useful social-emotional learning moments through connections to feelings, the expression of those feelings, and family. VERDICT A colorful book that celebrates potentially infinite diversity, this will be a story time hit for preschool and kindergarten audiences.--Kat Mowczko
