Maggie falls asleep at home in Texas, but when she wakes up, she's lying naked in a ditch nowhere near home. It turns out that she's in the kingdom of Rellas, the setting of her favorite (incomplete) series of fantasy novels. Maggie soon realizes that Rellas is on the brink of destruction by the invading Crimson Empire as well as its own internal politics. Using her wits and deep knowledge of the series, Maggie soon involves herself in the city of Kair Toren, finding a residence and newfound family, including an assassin, a former lady's maid, and a distant but appealing soldier. To keep her friends and new home safe, Maggie is willing to bend the rules and alter what she knows by breaking the timeline and key moments from the books. Every time someone tries to kill her, she comes back to life, so saving the kingdom from a devastating war she already knows about should be easy--right? VERDICT Andrews (Ruby Fever) launches a series that is a love letter to fantasy, exploring both the world of Rellas and characters' backstories in a fully immersive story.
