Party people A cookbook for creative celebrations

Brie Larson, 1989-

Book - 2025

"Brie Larson and Courtney McBroom found each other through food - a huge vat of molten queso, to be exact. They've been throwing food-filled parties together ever since. From weekly Game of Thrones viewing parties, to Dirty Dancing-themed birthday parties and their annual Hot Dog Appreciation Festival, they can find a reason to celebrate just about anything. While their debate over whether or not a hot dog is a sandwich will never end, Brie and Courtney can agree that food always tastes best when you cook it and eat it with the ones you love. They wrote Party People to help you create meaningful connections with the ones you love, whether that's with family, friends, or yourself. And with recipes like Old Pal cocktails, Chees...y Jenga Bread, and Dueling Roast Chickens, they have you covered. Technically, this is an entertaining cookbook. But Brie and Courtney are serving up more than party tips and menus. They give you the tools to spark anew dining revolution in your home, one where connection takes center stage and entertaining is an afterthought. Now, go forth and party!"--

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

A party is "a space for people to be weird and wild," write the coauthors of this playful cookbook, actor Larson and chef McBroom ((Momofuko Milk Bar). Frequent party cohosts, they outline how to throw a get-together that unites community, feeds a crowd, and allows even the hosts to have a blast. The first of "Eight steps to throwing a party" is to pick a reason to celebrate, with suggestions ranging from the obvious (national holidays) to the whimsical, such as finding "the perfect pair of jeans." This lightly comic tone carries through into a section on Party Essentials, "basic recipes for any occasion" including Tex-Mex martinis, and pull-apart cheesy bread perfect for socializing. Chapters on casual, fancy, and tiny parties suggest plentiful dips, main courses the likes of succulent kalua pork, and sides including coconut lime rice pilaf. For a sweet finish, there's an amaro-infused olive oil cake and "Courtney's Grandma's Texas Sheet Cake," made with chocolate fudge and pecans. A brief section on theme parties includes menu suggestions and decor ideas, and, as an epilogue, the authors include a hangover-busting smoothie. Throughout, curated playlists, tips for creating ambiance, and vibrant photography showcasing the dishes atop colorful but cluttered table settings reflect a trendy L.A. vibe. Irreverent and jam-packed, this joyful volume prioritizes fun over fuss. (Oct.)
